# UB-312 (alpha-synuclein vaccine)

## What it is

Instead of infusing lab-made antibodies (as prasinezumab and cinpanemab did), UB-312 is an active vaccine: it prompts a person's own immune system to generate antibodies aimed specifically at the clumped, disease-associated form of alpha-synuclein, while sparing the normal form the body needs.

## Where it stands

A Phase 1 study reported that the vaccine was generally tolerated and did generate the intended antibodies, with early signs the antibodies reached the fluid around the brain. It remains an early-stage program; it has not been shown to change the course of Parkinson's.

## What the data shows so far

The Phase 1 program was a small, early-stage study whose pre-specified goals were safety and immunogenicity (whether the vaccine produces the intended antibodies), not whether it slows the disease. Peer-reviewed results (2024) reported target engagement and antibody generation in a small group of participants over the study's dosing period; the exact enrollment was modest, as is typical for a first-in-Parkinson's vaccine trial. Any effect on symptoms or progression is unproven and would require much larger, longer trials.

## What families should know

This is a novel take on the alpha-synuclein idea, and a vaccine could in theory be simpler than repeated infusions. But antibody approaches to alpha-synuclein have mostly disappointed so far, and this one is still at the earliest human stage.

## Caveats

Very early; a small Phase 1 focused on safety and immune response, not efficacy. Anti-alpha-synuclein antibody strategies have repeatedly failed to slow Parkinson's. Not approved and years from availability, if it works at all.
