NCT05353868
Official Title
Gut Microbiota in the Progression of Alpha-synucleinopathies: a Prospective Follow-up Study
Goal
Predict Parkinson progression from microbiota
Status
RECRUITING
Sponsor
Chinese University of Hong Kong
Study Type
OBSERVATIONAL
Enrollment
490 participants
Conditions
REM Sleep Behavior Disorder
Interventions
No intervention

Plain-Language Summary

The goal is to see whether patterns in gut bacteria predict which people with REM sleep behavior disorder later develop Parkinson's or other alpha-synuclein diseases. Researchers are following about 490 people over time, collecting stool samples and clinical data without giving any treatment, and sequencing the microbiota to spot changes linked to disease progression. Participants must have completed the prior baseline study, be able to give informed consent, and must not have used probiotics or antibiotics in the past three months or have pre-existing gastrointestinal diseases like inflammatory bowel disease.
