Parkinson Disease

Plain-Language Summary

The trial is looking at whether the make-up and activity of gut bacteria are linked to thinking problems and brain inflammation in people with Parkinson's. Instead of testing a treatment, researchers will analyze participants' gut microbiome profiles and related biomarkers while doing cognitive assessments to find patterns that might explain or predict cognitive decline. They are enrolling people aged 55 to 85 with Parkinson's, excluding anyone who used antibiotics or immunosuppressants in the past 3 months or who has inflammatory gut disease, major brain injury, stroke, epilepsy, Alzheimer's, or recent psychiatric hospitalizations.
