# Link brain activity to mood

**Goal (in five words):** Link brain activity to mood

**Official Title:** Local Fields Potentials of the Subthalamic Nucleus in Patients With Parkinson's Disease and Neuropsychiatric Fluctuations

**Trial ID:** [NCT05820425](https://clinicaltrials.gov/study/NCT05820425)

## Key Facts

- **Status:** RECRUITING
- **Study Type:** OBSERVATIONAL
- **Sponsor:** University Hospital, Grenoble
- **Target Enrollment:** 12 participants
- **Start Date:** 2023-04-07
- **Completion Date:** 2025-02
- **Conditions:** Parkinson Disease
- **Interventions:** LFP and EEG recording
- **Intervention Types:** OTHER

## Summary For Families

The goal is to find electrical patterns in the subthalamic nucleus and on scalp EEG that line up with neuropsychiatric fluctuations like mood swings or cognitive shifts in people with Parkinson's. Investigators will use the Percept® DBS system to record local field potentials from the implanted STN electrode, along with EEG and symptom questionnaires, to match real brain activity to patients' reported ups and downs while people stay on their usual therapies. They are looking for people aged 30 to 75 with Parkinson's who have motor fluctuations or dyskinesias, had bilateral STN Percept implantation within the past 10 days, can complete an OFF-state questionnaire, have no dementia (MoCA > 24), and no active psychosis or pregnancy.

## Eligibility

- **Minimum age:** 30 Years
- **Maximum age:** 75 Years
- **Sex:** ALL

### Full Criteria

```
Inclusion Criteria:
* Age between 30 and 75 years
* Diagnosis of Parkinson's disease with fluctuations and/or dyskinesias
* Ability to collaborate and fill a questionnaire in the OFF state condition (this criterion will be assessed based on the results of the preoperative screening to retain indication for STN stimulation, which takes place whenever a PD patient has to undergo DBS surgery)
* Surgery for bilateral STN stimulation with a Percept® (Medtronic) in the last 10 days
* Absence of dementia (defined as MoCA score \> 24)
Exclusion Criteria:
* Active psychosis
* Patients unable to provide an informed consent or under gardianship
* Patients under judicial supervision or deprived of liberty
* Pregnancy and breastfeeding
