# Help decide about brain stimulation

**Goal (in five words):** Help decide about brain stimulation

**Official Title:** Feasibility, Acceptability, and Effectiveness of an Online Decision Aid for Patients With Parkinson's Disease Considering Deep Brain Stimulation Surgery Using a Pragmatic, Randomized Pilot Trial

**Trial ID:** [NCT06446505](https://clinicaltrials.gov/study/NCT06446505)

## Key Facts

- **Phase:** NA
- **Status:** RECRUITING
- **Study Type:** INTERVENTIONAL
- **Sponsor:** University of Colorado, Denver
- **Target Enrollment:** 42 participants
- **Start Date:** 2024-06
- **Completion Date:** 2026-07
- **Conditions:** Parkinson Disease
- **Interventions:** Deep Brain Stimulation Decision Aid
- **Intervention Types:** OTHER

## Summary For Families

The goal is to help people with Parkinson's who are thinking about deep brain stimulation feel informed and supported as they weigh the benefits and risks of surgery. The online decision aid gives tailored education about what DBS can change, like improving motor symptoms and often reducing medication needs, explains surgical risks and possible cognitive or mood side effects, and includes value-clarification exercises and question lists to use with your care team. The trial is a pragmatic, randomized pilot testing whether the tool is usable, acceptable, and actually helps people make decisions. They are enrolling about 42 adults age 18 and up who were referred for DBS evaluation at the University of Colorado, excluding those with atypical parkinsonism or dementia.

## Eligibility
