# Improve walking with dynamic standing

**Goal (in five words):** Improve walking with dynamic standing

**Official Title:** A Pilot Study of In-lab Dynamic Standing in Parkinson's Disease

**Trial ID:** [NCT07543861](https://clinicaltrials.gov/study/NCT07543861)

## Key Facts

- **Phase:** PHASE1
- **Status:** RECRUITING
- **Study Type:** INTERVENTIONAL
- **Sponsor:** University of Michigan
- **Target Enrollment:** 5 participants
- **Start Date:** 2026-04
- **Completion Date:** 2027-03
- **Conditions:** Parkinson Disease
- **Interventions:** Dynamic Standing Desk
- **Intervention Types:** DEVICE

## Summary For Families

The goal is to see if short, supervised sessions of gentle movement while standing can safely engage postural muscles and help with stiffness, balance, or feeling faint when upright in people with Parkinson's. The approach uses a dynamic standing desk, a platform that provides small, controlled shifts in the standing surface to shift weight and activate leg and core muscles, which may boost circulation and postural control; it is a device intervention, not a drug, so it does not interact with levodopa. The trial is looking for adults age 50 and up with a Parkinson's diagnosis who can stand or walk without an assistive device, and it excludes people with significant orthostatic symptoms, serious heart or lung disease, recent stroke, active rheumatic disease, dementia (MoCA or MMSE under 24), disabling chronic pain on narcotics, severe varicosities or venous ulcers, pregnancy, or other major medical or psychiatric issues. It is a small, in-lab pilot enrolling about five participants to check safety and feasibility.

## Eligibility

- **Minimum age:** 50 Years
- **Sex:** ALL

### Full Criteria

```
Inclusion Criteria:
* Diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease
Exclusion Criteria:
* Inability to stand or walk without an assistive device
* History of symptoms in stance that preclude safe and comfortable participation, such as dizziness and lightheadedness, orthostasis, severe symptomatic leg or back musculoskeletal pain, or medication side effects
* Any other history of medical or psychiatric comorbidity, precluding safe participation in the project.
* History of symptomatic cardiovascular or pulmonary disease
* History of active rheumatic arthritis
* History of stroke or other neurologic conditions with significant residual sensorimotor deficits
* History of disabling chronic pain syndrome requiring narcotic analgesics
* Evidence of dementia (Mini Mental State Exam (or Montreal Cognitive Assessment test) \<24 and significant impairment in activities of daily living)
* Venous ulcerative stasis or severe varicosities.
* Pregnancy as determined by urine pregnancy test prior to DXA procedure in women of childbearing potential.
