# Semaglutide Clinical Trials for Parkinson's

Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor drug first developed for type 2 diabetes and weight management. You may know it by the brand names Ozempic, Wegovy, or Rybelsus. Researchers are now studying whether this class of drug can protect brain cells and slow Parkinson's, not just manage symptoms.

The interest comes from laboratory work and earlier trials of related GLP-1 drugs, which hinted at effects on inflammation and the survival of dopamine-producing neurons. Several studies are now testing that idea directly in people with Parkinson's.

Below are the recruiting trials we track that involve semaglutide. You can also sign up to be emailed the moment a new semaglutide trial opens.
