Strengthen cough by forward flexion
- Trial ID
- NCT06955377
- Official Title
- Effect of Forward Trunk Flexion in Patients With Parkinson's Disease on the Airway Defense System
- Goal
- Strengthen cough by forward flexion
- Status
- RECRUITING
- Sponsor
- General University Hospital, Prague
- Study Type
- OBSERVATIONAL
- Enrollment
- 100 participants
- Conditions
- Parkinson Disease
Plain-Language Summary
They're looking at whether leaning the trunk forward helps the airway defense system in Parkinson's, for example by making coughs stronger and swallowing safer to lower the risk of choking or aspiration. The team will observe how a forward-flexed posture changes measures like cough strength and respiratory muscle pressures, because leaning forward can shift chest and abdominal mechanics and may boost peak cough flow and airway closure during swallowing. About 100 adults with Parkinson's, age 18 and up, are invited if they can reliably perform breathing and grip tests. People with major cognitive problems, poor lip seal, severe lung or unstable heart disease, other serious neurologic conditions, or hand deformities that affect grip are excluded.
